Marco de Ana

Marco de Ana began studying flamenco at very early age at the Dance Academy of Jose Galvan in Sevilla. He received additional training with Mario Maya, Goyo Montero as well as classic ballet in the studio of Susana Rodriguez based on the technique of the Royal School of London.

Marco first appeared at “El Palacio Andaluz” under the direction of “La Tona”, where he performed Spanish classical Dances, Jota and some other regional dances of Spain. After this contract he concentrated only on flamenco, working at some of Spain’s most important “Tablaos” including “El Arenal” in Sevilla, “Las Carboneras” in Madrid and “El Cordobes” in Barcelona. He also travelled several times to Japan to perform with the companies of Yoko Komatsubara ,in the most important theatres of the country, and Mercedes Amaya (niece of Carmen Amaya) at the “Flamenco” in Tokio.

Diversity and challenging all kinds of art, combining his deep knowledge of pure flamenco with contemporary concepts are the main and most striking aspects of Marcos work as a dancer and choreographer.

His personal vision, creativity, quality and precision led him to collaborate with outstanding artists like Israel Galvan and his sister Pastora Galvan, first as a dancer in the company of Israel performing in “Galvanicas” (Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla 2002) and later as an assistent choreografer in “La Francesa” for Pastora Galvan (Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla 2006) and “El final de este estado de cosas” y “redux” for Israel (La Bienal de Flamenco de Malaga 2007 and La Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla 2008)

The number of realized scenic works of this young dancer for his own company throughout the last ten years such as “Quimica” 2004, “Herencia” 2005, “Eclipse” 2008 , “La Flor del Poeta” 2009 , etc. reflect the creative ambition of this outstanding artist.

In 2011 he choreografed “Hay fuego en tus ojos” for Rosario Toledo with guestdancer Joaquin Grilo, a ambicious contemporary Flamenco piece that was shown in the “Festival de Flamenco de Jerez de la Frontera”, moving the audience and critics in its first night.
Inmediately after his premiere marco de ana was contacted by Pepa Gamboa, one of spanish’ most important theater directors, and asked to make the coreografy for ” A summer´s night dream ” , a European community proyect, called “moving”, envolving young gypsy artists in a Shakespeare production.
